TAKING A LOOK BACK

30 years of IMMI – WOW! I first came in contact with the software 19 years ago, with version 5.1 (we didn't use the years as version numbers in the past). I am happy to be part of the IMMI team since 2003 and of course very proud to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.

A lot has happened in the last few years. On the one hand, in terms of technical noise protection, whether in rail and road traffic or in urban development. Or on the other hand, because people have become more aware of the relevance of noise and all its effects. Regulations have been further developed, made more precise, harmonized throughout Europe, and brought up to the state of the art.

We constantly developed our IMMI software to meet the requirements of the times – worldwide. And this is how it should continue.

1992

First official delivery to customers – the birth of IMMI for commercial use

1995

IMMI development is switched to "Borland Delphi 1" (16 bit)

The search for international sales partners begins. With the International Sales Office in Eupen, Belgium, the first branch office is opened – today 12 partners in 12 countries from Europe to Asia attend to the international sales.

1997

First IMMI version for Windows 95 appears as IMMI 4.0

2000

Brigitte Deckert joins the company and is still part of the IMMI team today

2002

Heiko Schnurbusch joins the company and takes care of the delivery of IMMI – at that time still one burned CD per customer.

2006

IMMI 6.0 – Prepared for large projects of the first phase of strategic noise mapping

2008

Introduction of the new hardkey generation (HASP)

2010

Attempt at EU-wide, uniform noise calculation (first Harmonoise, later CNOSSOS)

Janosch Blaul joins the team

2012

Changeover to Delphi XE2-UNICODE

2014

Mathias Barthel joins the team and takes on the support of the sales partners from 2015 onwards

2016

The new IMMI logo is launched

First work on the implementation of CNOSSOS-EU. Start of realizing national implementations (in Germany BUB, BUF, BEB).

2018

New, modern, professionally designed interface

2021

Over 45 calculation methods implemented

1991

Thomas Drewes (back left) and Werner Kohl (front right) are the first programmers to systematically develop IMMI. Start of development: 1990.

Denise Müller joins the company and is now head of sales and support

Changeover to 32 bit and presentation as IMMI 5.3

2007

First phase of noise mapping – IMMI maps large parts of England with IMMI 6.2.1

Introduction of the "external terrain model" to make use of largest terrain models

2009

Change of version name from IMMI 6.3.1 to IMMI 2009. Since then, versions are named according to their year of publication.

2011

IMMI becomes multicore-capable; distributed computing on the network (ACR) becomes possible

2013

New IMMI logo

2015

Dr.-Ing. Klaus-Georg Krapf leaves operational business (retirement), Janosch Blaul assumes responsibility for IMMI.

2017

Jürgen Schrauth joins IMMI as developer

2019

Launch immi.eu

2022

OUTLOOK

We are happy and also quite proud to have played an instrumental part in making our world a little quieter over the past 30 years by providing our savvy users with an efficient tool. But unfortunately, even with this piece of the puzzle, the world can not eliminate all noise problems. After all, the continuous growth of the population is exacerbating the situation despite all innovations in noise control. We are happy to meet this challenge – with technological as well as substantive solutions. Because we firmly believe that the potential of noise abatement has not even begun to be exhausted.

We want to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalization to further develop noise abatement in a targeted manner. Topics such as cloud computing, AI, and global data models play a part in this. In addition, we attach great importance to applications that open up noise control for everyday life and new user groups. We have already initiated internal work on this in parallel with the continuous development of IMMI. So you can definitely look forward to what is to come! At this point, I would like to go out on a limb: Your work with IMMI will become even more efficient and enjoyable in the future – and will open up perspectives that were, with the previous methods, not feasible.
